How many trout eat these?

every year I see some kind of plant seed falling from the trees and always wondered if trout started rising to theses thinking they were sulfers

Those are seeds from a sycamore tree. Sycamores thrive along streams, rivers, and lakes as they are a riparian species. I'm sure that those seeds get eaten by trout as they can look a lot like a mayfly.

I was thinking the same exact thing the other day. I'm sure it happens a good bit.
 
carp eat mulberry seeds off the top of the water.
 
Try catching carp with a top water popper - now that is alot of fun!
 
I am sure that some do. I have seen trout taking the catapillar looking things that fall from willow trees. I watched a fish on the Little Lehigh take one and then spit out. He was a little slow, he kept doing it over and over as new ones came down stream.
