Jeez, I was about to put my foot in my mouth by saying something snarky about that whole cowboy hat thing from out west. Glad I'd didn't.

Well there's always the tight loop.....

IMO this is the best hat pic/pose in the thread.

See avatar for best fishing hat ever. It's ever rattier now than when I took this pic which gives it more character. Maurice offered to take up a collection so I could buy a new hat, but I took offense to that notion. I can afford enough duct tape to keep it together for at least another decade.

In the salt I have a long brimmed baseball style hat with a "flap" of material that covers my neck and ears. More coverage less for the dermatologist to freeze.
Trout fishing, a subdued color baseball cap. Winter or cold weather it's a cap that is insulated and has a flap to cover my ears and a bit of the neck. Best part is that I won it in a contest, best "free" thing I have. GG
Anyone add a bandanna to the hat for a sweat band?

My fave is a wool Lite Felt crusher by Renagade Headwear made in USA. It's a wide brim cowboy style and is (was?) water repellent. I bought it years ago at Wally Eagle's store and it's still going strong. The best feature is the chin strap. When the wind kicks up, tighten up the chin strap. Only had to replace the slide on the chin strap once so far but that just takes a small bit of leather scrap. Tight linees,

Dave
