So TB and I went fishing together on Friday, and we did pretty well in spite of the heavy rains that hi the area 2 days in a row.
We fished in the First Fork Drainage, a place I haven't fished much, it's in Sproul SF.
The first fish caught that day is shown. a pic of the creek is also shown.

Great pictures - very evocative. The fish appears to be fully colored and ready to spawn. Respectfully, it's possible you and TB may have done well as a result of (rather than in spite of) the recent rains. The stream looks as though it's falling and clearing after the rain, which are classic trout fishing conditions, and exactly when I prefer to fish, especially after the low-flows of summer.

That's why we went there.

RLeeP told me about "storm chasing" on the freestone streams a long time ago. Thanks Bob!

Look at the USGS gauges, see where the water is way up from recent rains, and go.

It's some of the most enjoyable fishing there is. Not just because you often catch a lot of fish. But also because it is just great being out there when the streams are roaring.

Pretty modest post considering that Brookie, which for length and girth is just a #censor# beauty.

NICE brookie. My brother and i were up in the southern part of sproul state forest on saturday the 14th. Water was was surprisingly really low on the stream we fished. there must have had training thunderstorms in the area you fished.

were you fishing the side seams or dragging the bottom ? - i never quite know how to approach high water small streams.

Nice looking fish. Given the colors I'm seeing in brookies already, it looks like an early fall is shaping up. Last year, I fished in early October and did not see much spawning action, nor were the majority of the fish I caught colored up. But this year, they are a-blazing in color already.
