First steelhead

After about twelve outings without a fish I finally caught my first steelie today in the Chagrin in OH. This was likely my last outing and the fish are either spawned out and dead or have headed back to the lake. I may get a shot at one again but it will be a few years (moving east in July). I am trying to post the pic but am having trouble. Fish was about 24 inches or so.

Sweet!!! I remember my first ever steelhead like it was yesterday, probably one of my most memorable fish. Congrats on the first of hopefully many.

I fished for steelhead the past 2 weekends and caught mainly older(as in been in the river a while) fish. Did get one nice fresh one, lost another that looked and fought like it was very fresh, and heard of a few others being caught. Definitely winding down though. On the bright side, the lake run bass are in!! Hope to make a trip real soon to chase those monster smallies.

Thanks. This fish had been in the river a while and had the scars to prove it. It's color was still ok, not dark and rotting but it wasn't fresh. I couldn't believe how he fought. It almost ripped my rod out of my hand.

Elk still has some fresh fish in it and what I would consider fairly far upstream, the areas around 79. I was there yesterday with my 9 year old and finally caught his first one.

dang right Nick. I was up on saturday and netted 2 nice sized smallmouths both on buggers, no luck with steel but those guys were fun. I'm definitely planning on hitting it up once bass season starts. I wanted to keep those two sooo bad
