Anyone ever hear of this stuff?

http://www.zooscape.com/cgi-bin/maitred/GreenCanyon/questp100229

Supposed to be good for removing skunk odor as well as a mosquito repellant.

Does it really work?

Hank,
I would not buy it. It is most likely made of carbolic acid, AKA, phenol. So there are two possibilities here, 1 the phenol is at such a low level that it is safe to the user but ineffective, or 2 it is high enough to be effective but also high enough to cause damage to you or your children.

From the CDC concerning phenol;
-prevent skin contact

-exposuer limit of 50ppm

-will affect liver and kidney function

So it is either a sham or will kill you.

Ingredients: Natural Color, Sodium Hydroxide, Coconut Oil, Tallow, No Scent Added, Cresylic Acid

whats what, Ryan...

Could be tar soap which contains some cresote, carbolic acid.One of the first disinfectants.Sold for medicinal purposes and can be found in drugstore for dandriff.Lots of newer products that are safer.

Ryan,

Intersting. I did come across that chemical on some of the web sites when I was looking this up. None indicated it was that bad.

I stumbled across carbolic soap from a newsletter I subscribe to - the (Chesapeake) Bay Journal - www.bayjounal.com. I would be surprised if they would ...promote?... the use of something that could potentialy harm the Bay.

Anyway, how's that rod looking?

Hank
