Stopped by the Quitty today and talked to a couple of fishermen.
Every one of the guys told me they caught Brookies.....all small in the 8-10 inch range. The State was scheduled to stock the Quitty on thursday with Browns and Bows (web-site). I didn't see or here of a brown or bow caught today. Don't think the club up that way stocked this week. My question is did the state substitute brookies or was this just a fluke. By the way an older gentlemen said he saw the state put the brookies in. Maybe Mike can chime in.

In recent years, it hasn't been unusual for the state to stock brookies in streams that were only suppose to receive browns and rainbows.

Just curious because i know the club up there does stock some nice brookies but it looks and sounds like these were state fish. Also, awful low water conditions. Thankful for this rain tonight.

I can't speak for the Quittie but some streams in my neck of the woods that are listed as stocked with RTs and BTs have definitely received a big dose of brookies this year.

All of the above are possible, but I know some of the Quittie's tribs regularly get Brookies too...could be washdowns. As mentioned, I think there may be a club or two that supplements the state stockings as well.

I fished Pine Creek at Blackwell on Wed, April 17th. I caught 7 brook trout and never saw a brown or rainbow which is what was listed on the stocking schedule. I was surprised cause normally I catch bows and browns there and only occasionally catch a stocked brookie.

These weren't washdowns....club didnt stock as well...just saying the state was scheduled to put in br & rb..and all that was caught were brookies. just a fluke in the schedule i guess....Sandfly you make a good point.

Probably are brookies from Babb Creek. I've caught brookies at the mouth of Babb in Pine Creek in May and I'm nearly certain that's where they came from.
