Based on the amount of flex that those rods have, it must take a while to get used to casting them.

Just a matter of letting it happen. I fished bamboo extensively as a kid in the late 60's with my father's 9' 6 wt South Bend. Got away from them for a lot of years, but never went to the fast action graphite rods as the just were not as enjoyable as fishing a slower action rod like a full flex Orvis Supergine. Wyatt Deitrich built me a 8' 4 wt last June and it was like meeting an old friend. Have not touched another rod since.

Wyatt and i are trying to get together this summer to help me build a 6' 4 wt. I'm hoping that rod building may be something I will pursue when I retire next year. Looking forward to surprising my fishing buddies with their own rod at Christmas time.

Soon enough ill have my first self made cane rod, its taking some time to get it alll together but the day is coming. Cant wait it will probably be a 3 wt but who knows as the summer is slipping me by I may push up to a switch rod in the 11ft 7/8 area.
