I have seen one hopper around my house. We also had zero japanese beetles this summer. (Southcentral PA)

What are you seeing around your place?

It's prime time and I saw dozens of big hoppers just walking to my car about half an hour ago. They're just about full size and very active with this late summer heat. I haven't seen any fishing yet but I haven't been on any spring creeks lately.

I'd have some in my fly box if I was heading out for trout this week.

I saw tons of crickets, hoppers and jap beetles near around my house in SEPA this summer. In fact, I've fished hopper patterns almost exclusivley since July with great success. A simple letort-esque hopper can be very effective and I haven't had the need to switch things up to much.

hoppers can be like cicadas where they are few or mass with the years and areas. I have a normal year here where as last year was lots of them. dry years seem to produce more. lots of big crickets this year, dog is having a blast with them and bees..

Saw hoppers and Japanese beetles on the Donegal. Just a small stretch, but they were there.

I have seen one hopper in Cleveland area this year. I usually see a lot of them. Not many japanese beetles either. We had one japanese beetle in our garden this year, normally I have to put up a beetle trap or the garden gets decimated. Not this year.

Fished Letort after the rain last night (FFO section) with a hopper. Didn't get a single rise and didn't see any live hoppers along the bank.

I've been seeing and fishing hoppers for over a month on the Letort. All different sizes and colors are out there. Dave's Hoppers and Letort Hoppers/Crickets all work. In order to choose to throw a hopper...the surrounding banks should have some present. The "Key"---Think meadows with tall weeds with a cross wind. Try adding some action/motion. This has also been a good way to get smallmouth on the Conodoguinet. Yesterday, I also saw a stink bug and a large carpenter ant in the Letort.

You mean, a fish would actually eat a stinkbug ? Have they no taste ?

On my way to fish the lower end of Jeans Run Sunday there were hoppers.I didn't have any with me,but did have a #10 stimulator that sort of looks like a hopper.Caught around 15 wild brookies and missed quite a few more,a little slow on the trigger. Here's a pic of my biggest one of the day.
