I had been trying to working something fun for those who ares still fishing this time of year. I wanted to announce we kicking off a 2013 Winter Photo Contest. Allen Fly Fishing wanted to offer some gear as part of the prizes. Thank you Justin!!

We had done this once before and looking to bring it back a few more times this year. I really enjoy all the great photo's everyone shares on the site and think this is a good way to showcase those images.

Some more details here on the blog.

All photos must be taken in Pennsylvania region, which includes: New York, New Jersey, Maryland and Ohio during the timeframe of the contest. The photo subject must be relevant to fly fishing in the region.

I'm guessing that means photos must be taken this winter.

I was thinking that the photographs should be taken during the Dec 21, 2012 - Mar 19, 2013 timeframe. I wanted to get a view into what we do and see during the winter season. It could be fly fishing some stream, fly tying, making rods, some cool snowy winter stream or whatever you gets your creative juices going.

Film? How quaint!

Seriously, this post just made me realize how quickly we have gotten away from film to digital cameras. I don't even remember seeing film in stores lately. How much of a specialty item has it become and how hard to you have to search now for a place to have prints developed?

I am amused that you guys answered Shane's question.... That boy never asks a serious question.

Great contest. Love winter fishing because it is a beautiful time on the creeks. Can't wait to see all of the pics!

Me too! A Christmas present for me is a new camera. All the problems I had with photobucket and my slow camera? Yowzers!! I need a fresh start, and this would be a good one.

I upgraded a couple things with my trout fly fishing...... and I should be "set to go" pretty soon!

OMG - 16 megapixel, 6x zoom, 4G memory card --- $69 Nikon
Those Chinese can make some good stuff for a cheap price?

You can shoot with anything you want. You just need to have submitted as a jpeg to the site in the correct category.

Good luck with film. Been a long time since I went down that road.

Pretty easy to get prints made, getting decent hi res scans locally is another issue. I just started playing with 35mm this fall, been dropping the rolls off at Target and getting the CD with the prints. Wish the CD had higher res scans, but they're good enough to share on the web. I understand Costco also does a decent job developing prints. Plus there are some 'mail order' shops you can send your stuff out to, with surprisingly quick turnaround. A DSLR from Santa sure would be nice though...

Here's a collection of shots from this fall, quality of the scans really drops out when you view 'em big...
