It does seem like I have seen a lot of them recently too.
Don't know if their populations are cyclical or if weather conditions, being rather cool and wet the last month or so, may have something to do with it.

I know they're one of the few natural predators to the stink bug and there have been advertisements in purchasing them to help naturally take care of the stink bug problem. That might also have an effect.

Yea, a wild mantis will fly immediately when you walk up on one. Stocker just sits there looking at you, no sense of self preservation at all.
