Anyone know if enough of these hatch for the trout to key on them?

^ Great pic. Like most stoneflies, I believe they crawl out of the stream to hatch and they are active mostly at night.

But if a trout ever runs across one, I have no doubt they will eat it. The fish probably see most of them when they are still nymphs, so that would be something to try.

A big stimmie in the right color would probably work well for egg-layers that end up in the water.

They also would be targets for SMBs on the River.

Good luck.

Agree. ^
A big black nymph would be worth a try - think something like a Montana or even a wooly bugger.

Neat photo!

They would definitely pound the nymphs.

Fluttering egg layers draw attention too.

Some of my most memorable fishing was throwing huge stonefly nymphs through the riffles and the line would just stop. Hardest hits I have ever experienced.
