silk fly line?

A friend was wandering around a flea market and saw a guy with some old rods and reels. He ended up buying 2 rods and a reel for less than $10 and then gave them me. They are all old (60s maybe?) The reel has what I think is silk line. Does it go bad? It doesn't seem to be rotted or anything but I'm not really sure. Is there anything that has to be done with it before fishing it? Is it even worth using?
