Dunno what you guys are talking about, but there is nothing like new gear. Knowing that you won't have to replace something for awhile is always reassuring for me. I'm really hard on gear. There is not a company out there that makes anything I can't destroy within a year. Remember... "If your lookin good, your fishin good".

Fish,

Try the Filson foul weather strap vest. My friend has had his for almost 20 years and it is still going. I fish hard and have had mine for 3 or 4 years now. If you destroy a filson in a year I don't even want to know where you are bushwhacking to fish.

I have both the guide vest and the strap vest and they are awesome. There is now way you would EVER wear a Filson out in under 10 years I don't care who you are or how hard you are on gear. Phish if you ever wanna check them out just let me know. I'm only 20 min from you and fish up there often.

People rely to much on gimmicks an the newest must have items. Fly box, float, nippers, shot, line tool, themos, tippet. That's all you need ever. I rarly ever even carry a net. Lean an mean. Simplicity, no reason to make it more complicated then it already is.

I fish more then most, an alot more then many.

Have fun diggin threw your overstuffed vest looking for a item your not even sure is in there. Ill be in the stream catchin. An lookin good doin it! Hahahahahahahahahahaha
I fish enough that I know where EVERYTHING is located in my vest. I do carry a net though rarely use it. I once nearly lost a big brook trout because I did not have my net. Now I carry it.

Phish_On - Irish- not fishing far from my car? Really, I don't even want to start with you. You must be one of the ones with those oversized vest. Carrying things you will never need. I only take with me what I will use for a particular outing. Keep it simple. I fish more in a month then most do in six months.

I am of the same way of thinking as WildTT. I dont like to forget anything and can adapt to many different conditions without a long hike back to my gear. I wear a lite vest and carry a waistpack with spools of line and water.

WildTigerTrout- I fish everything from very small mountain streams to several limestoners to large streams. I carry anything I may need at any one of those streams, therefore I carry more gear than maybe the average guy. The advantage though is I can be ready to fish anywhere with five minutes notice. I do agree that lanyards are nice for certain situations but not for all. As far as the amount of fishing you do are you bragging or complaining? I think I fish more than the average guy, so what does that have to do with anything.

I've had mine for almost ten years, it's the last one I'll need. I love it, you just have to get past the price tag.

I nearly learned my lesson the hard way. I hooked an 18 1/2" brook trout and could have landed him alot quicker with a net. I had to beach him. He was hooked pretty good and I think that's what made the difference. After that experience I carry my net. I seldom use it but nice to know it's there.

Can't afford it but that filson guide vest looks nice. I especially like the snaps. Velcro seems to work less well the older it gets. Love trico time where everything fits in one shirt pocket.

Just something about the vest that says Fly-Fishing to me.

Call me a traditionalist in that regard.

I agree with you about a vest being traditional. I would be lost without my vest and Richardson chest fly box.

Will there ever be a time in life when we will stop worrying about how we look. If the trout really cared, some fisher people would never catch a thing.
