Winter fly fishing gear

I want to be able to go out with the fly rod a few times during this winter season and I am just wondering what kind of equipment you guys use especially for the winter season. One piece in particular is gloves. I have not been able to find a descent pair of waterproof yet tight fitting gloves that can be used for the winter season.

I have tried full glove neoprenes and fingerless gloves, but REALLY like the fold over mittens. Simms makes a great pair that I'm now using. Very warm and they dry fast. You can leave these on when tying on a new fly, leader or tippet. Then when your hands get cold, just fold over. There are other brands too, LL Bean, Orvis and I'm sure a few others too. I however will recommend the Simms, as I have field tested them and the Windstopper fleece is very warm.

Extra bag of clothes in the car and a blanket. If you fall in you will be glad you packed them.

Your one up on me and I'm a Mom. My son's fishing Salmon River on the 2nd. I think I'll add some stuff to his gear. I've got one of those inexpensive Mexican blankets that are so warm you wouldn't believe it looking at it. Best blanket ever!! I think I paid $8.00. I feel guilty now. It's worth 3 times that!

Wool. Lots of it. Cheap, rugged, and warm when wet. I got a pair of fingerless ragwool gloves for 8 bucks and have been wearing them all winter.

A windbreaking wading jacket, as well as a few fleece layers are nice too. I bought a full facemask once in erie, but I'm never fishing in that kind of cold again. I'll wait for it to be warm enough for exposed skin before I go fishing from now on.

I can't believe the difference in temp between us and State College. My son fishing in Pulaski got his first taste of frostbite. A very mild case but it earned his respect. He likes the flipover mittens and they usually serve him pretty good, but cold is just plain cold. He'll also remember to eat breakfast and pack a snack. An empty belly is just as bad as cold temps.
