A while back I posted about these in a different thread. I finally remembered to snap some pictures..

Can any one identify these?

The reel is marked "Martin", "63", and "Made in the USA".

The rod has no markings other than "115 F 7'9"" It is fiberglass.

My research leads to me the reel being a Martin model 63. Is there any way to date the reel?

Also, I have zero idea on what the rod is. Any ideas?

I currently fish a 3 weight rod for trout and was looking to set up another longer, heavier rod to use out of my canoe for small mouth & sunfish. I was wondering if I could make this setup work for my needs.

Wonder if the stick is a real old Fenwick, when their yellow blanks were made at the Conolon factory before they created their fabulous Feralites.

About 30 yrs ago I received a Martin 65 as a gift. It's a cheap reel and is referred to as a "tunafish can" reel. It is a very light weight reel.

I had found a 1975 ad on a Martin 63 for $2.97 so your reel predates 1975 and I doubt you'll be able to get an accurate age for it.

Morning Record April 11, 1975

Look at the top left corner of the page.

Thanks for the info.

I disassembled the reel and cleaned it up real good. Feels pretty smooth. I think I'm gonna give it a spin the next time I go out fishing.

Shakey's the resident tuna can expert.

I suspect its a kit rod. The handle's unique enough to provide a clue if anyone would know. Try the fiberglassflyrodder forum.

Speaking of cans, that is a can of Pabst Blue Ribbon, modern era. Only worth about $0.75 if full.

That was my first reel. The spools bent easily
