Anybody know a good source for an inexpensive net replacment? I have a perfectly good net, but it has a knotted nylon bag, which I don't really like. It's got a 56" circumference, I'm having trouble finding a replacement that's large enough. I'm thinking I should be able to find a nylon mesh bag for less than $20, but I can't seem to.

I'm planning to get into some carp on the fly this summer, and would also like to use it while fishing from a bass boat, so having a decent catch-and-release net would be great. Just dont' want to dish out the full price of another net.

I was just looking for new net bags, actually have one in the mail that is to arrive tomorrow.

Based on your dimensions of 56in circumference, that would be about a 17in diameter I think. Try taking a look at these two sites, seem to have some of the better prices out there:

http://www.aquamasters.com/rubbnets.htm

http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/replacement-nets/934160.aspx

http://frabill.com/landing-nets/replacement-netting.html

Good luck!

Thanks elonDO! I ordered one from Jann's Net craft. They have a pretty neat site. Lots of products you don't see just anywhere. I may get something else from them.

Just got my net from http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/replacement-nets/934160.aspx today. It looks like it will fit great in my old net. I wish I didn't have such a busy week ahead, otherwise I'd be stringing it up to take to the water. That will just have to wait for now. I hope you have as good of success as I did!

good luck stringing it. I customized a brodin for a very very small net and gave me a hassle. Only because I realized I screwed it up halfway through and had to take it all apart.

I had the same problem the first time I tried to restring a net. I learned quite a bit that first go round. I'm hoping this one will be a piece of cake!

Yea. That's going to be the next challenge. I actually have very little idea of how to put the new net on once I get it. I'm hoping to find internet instructions...

Replacing a net bag is really simple to do. You'll need some 30lb backing - I dyed some black with Rit dye. The only other thing you'll need is a Griffin bobbin threader, or an embroidery needle.

While you have the bag off the frame, it's a good time to re-do the finish of the wood. Lots of choices to do this - I used marine grade spar varnish. Just make sure the holes don't get closed up by the finish. Before I applied the varnish, I cleaned up the frame with fine steel wool, and cleaned off any dust residue.

I used wooden clothespins to temporarily hold the bag as I strung it, and removed them as I went along. It took about 20 minutes to do (stringing the net).

Don't be afraid to do this - it's really easy. Here's some basic instructions....

I figured it wouldn't be that difficult. Though the net bag that I'm replacing is going onto a metal framed net, so that procedure won't work. I'm sure I'll figure something out, though...

jeremymcon, We have replacement nets we stocked up on and decided not to carry that product line. If you want to send me an email at info@allenflyfishing.com I'd be happy to send you one.

Thanks
