Proof it doesn't take much

Cool story!

Why did it take him an hour to get in?

Cool story, but those pike are ravaging the great trout streams out west.

totally agree in some instances, in others they're just eating other invasives like the brown trout and I'd personally rather latch into one of those.

An hour does seem long, but an aggressive fish that large I suppose it isn't that surprising on a 15lb tippet and 5 wt rod.

I just think an hour was an exageration. 60 minutes is a long time.

I've fished for northers in huge lakes in Quebec and they don't fight that hard. They just bull dog away. The 40"ers I've caught are released within 3 minutes. Granted braded leader and bite tippet (not 15lb.) However, I think it's 20lb.

Just a guess here, but if the canoe didn't have an anchor, that thing may have pulled him all over the place. I know someone that used to fish for carp from a canoe and he would fight them up and down the creek 100-200 yds and sometimes take 30 minutes or more to land. Like I said, just a guess...

Now that's a ride i would like to take. Probably would like pretty funny from shore, there goes bob. Wait here he comes again...
