Powell TMX rods?

Just bought one cheap from sierra trading post, went to pull line from top line guide to make practice cast, and the top piece snapped!?! They are replacing it, but was wondering if any owns one? Knows someone who owns one? Are they total pig iron or what? Its a 7-wt for steelhead, bass, etc.... Got it for under $100......Any cheap alternatives if it happens again....running out of time before first trip to erie
