I need a new nymphing rod, but its been awhile since iv been on the market, and i do not know where to begin.

Im looking for a 4/5 wt rod in the 8'5"- 9' range. I dont WANT to pay more than 200 for it, but i will if I have to.

Also if anyone knows of any QUALITY rod/ reel combos that would also be appreciated.

Shame, I think JayL just moved his 10' streamflex, otherwise its a sweet deal to consider.

I bought a new LL Bean Streamlight Ultra 9' 5wt for a friend. Its an awesome rod, actually, I tossed it a bit in my yard, I'm impressed.

Albright rods are on sale until tomorrow 4/4. GPX for $99 or A-5 for $165. I have a GPX, there decent rods for $99. It would be fine for nymphing.

I have a 10 ft 4 wt Streamflex that I would sell. This is a very good rod for Nymphing. PM me if you are interested.

Gfen, I think im going to get one of those Streamlight Ultra 9' 5wt. I do demos at LLBean occasionally and I really like the feel of that rod.

if you are looking to nymph, don't go with the 8.5 ft. 9ft should be the minimum.
I'd go with the 5 wt or higher. This will prompt replies of how how much line do you throw when nymphing- but once you really get into nymphing you will want to throw a good distance, with lots of weight on the end. I know all the arguments about line control and drift, but there is some nymphing techniques that can be done at a distance and a little drag is a good thing (isonymphs and caddis pupae)

I heard Humpheries say (at a seminar) there is no reason to ever go below a 5 wt, even on small streams.

Thanks alot! 4wt just seems too light for a long rod.

Look into the tfo rods

TFO on ebay...

I have a TFO TICR in a 9' 8wt and love it. Very stiff rod though. So depending on what your liking is, it may or may not suit you. The st croix rods are good too. I just bought a 9'5wt last year and it's pretty nice. It seems more like a 6wt to me, but works great for nymphing.

I agree that the st croix it is more of a 6wt - I overline every st croix I have and feel that makes it a better casting rod. I have a TFO rod as well and have been very happy with it. I like the st croix rods just a bit more

Clearwater II 9' 5wt is a decent rod for the price.

Cortland "Brook" Series 10ft. 5 weight.
