Ive been fishing in this cold water and wind, and I have to say the hemos I have make it difficult to keep the fish in the net and grab the hook and release the fish without grabbing it. Is there any pair of hemos that everyone used as a consensus that are the best? or are they all a pain in the ars sometimes?

I have a pair of Orvis ones and they never gave me any trouble

i would lift the trouts head up a bit with your hand under the net, so you are not coming within direct contact of the fish itself. or maybe im not understanding the problem.

If I understand correctly your looking to get a hold of the hook and remove it without holding or taking the fish out of water. It sounds like the ends of your hemo's are to large, if that's it you can get a smaller set.

For trout, I prefer to use the curved jaw hemos.

lv2nymph is spot on, im having a hard time gettin a good grip on the hook, I just leave the belly of the fish in the water grab the shank and reverse direction like i normally would

Marvin,
IMHO these are the best option for late fall, winter, and early spring when wearing fingerless gloves or flip mitts.

I have a pair like these, mine are black so I don't know if it's the same brand but it's the same kind. The little loop on the end will catch in the bend of the hook you give a little push and the hook slides right out. I pinch the barbs down, don't know if you do but it makes removal much easier. The best part is you don't crush your flies.

I too like the Streamworks forceps. What I like about the Streamwork forceps -
Narrow tips to grasp the tiny flies
Large loops to slip fingers in and out without hang-ups
Serrated scissor to cut pieces of yarn for indicators, monofilament, manicure flies
Back part of jaws good for crimping split shot
All and All, well thought out and designed.

Thanks guys! Problem solved!

I got mine from the ER after i got 9 stitches in my hand. I asked the Dr. who also fished and he said sure just put them in your coat when you leave lol. Best pair Ive ever had they lock onto hooks and don't let go no matter how hard i pull.

Starv - I prefer Mitten Clamps http://www.drslick.com/catalog/clamps/mitten

No messing with finger loops, which is handy if you are wearing gloves or mittens.
