Any need to replace leader?

Sorry for the ultra noob question. I believe I read on here about replacing or cutting part of the leader back each day it is fished. Is that true? I never thought of replacing or changing mine as long as it isn't broken. Do I need to be maintaining it more?

Run your fingers along it. If it feels intact, there is no need to replace it for that reason. However, because each time a fly is changed an inch or more of the tippet is lost, the leader at the end may need to be periodically re-built. Some people will just replace it at that point since they are usually only a few dollars.
