I should mention that I dunked the reel in water prior to performing the test just to give it a worse case scenario. There were early issues with the reels when they got wet and it seems that has been corrected. With that current sale I am considering another for a future streamer rod.

Dunk it in the sandy surf if you really want a good test of things. The wash is filthy with grit, and it will magically get everywhere in less than a second under that water.

Hello,

The codes can be a bit tricky. The area to enter the code is past the paypal section. I have a sample aswell on the blog of the page to enter the code.

Thanks

How do the drags on Allen reels do after being quickly dunked underwater? Can particles and grime enter the drag?

I can't answer the second part but I address the first question in my two posts above.

trevor: If it gets wet and you need the drag right afterwards, chances are it will be full of particles. I've had it happen to me several times. After a few minutes it seems fine, though. I also had mine lock up a few times this winter, because it got wet and froze. For all the more they cost, its a fair trade.

Want to start out saying this is not a complaint! Reel looks great and have nothing but positive to say about allens.

Question. I have an alpha for my 4 wt, pit it on for first time yesterday ( was not been fished yet) and I won't fit in the reel seat on my Orvis rod. The section of the reel that comes in contact with the reel seat seems too thick for the covers ( not sure what they are called) to slide over. Any suggestions? Thanks

Drews - I just had the same problem with a Trout 5/7 on my St Croix Imperial. I have found that a lot of guys take a file to the foot of their reels so that they will fit into the reel seat hardware (hood and locking nut). In my case, i couldn't get any reel to fit and it ended up being a problem with the rod. But I also have an Orvis Clearwater thats a VERY tight fit.

If you decide to file it - don't go crazy because if you take too much off, it might be too loose if you try to put it on another rod.
