fly tying classes in your local fly shop to me is the ultimate tying video. nothing beats hands on with a good instructor to teach you the basics.

or you can check out this series from scflytying. part 1 below but theres more

scflytying channel

i find that a lot of tying videos (not all) (you tube, vimeo etc) are just music videos with fly tying in the background or the tyer in the video simply ties too fast for any beginner to follow and that usually means that techniques are often forgotten to be mentioned. some tyers talk so fast the sound needs to be turned off.

Below are two really good resources for learning to tie all kinds of fly patterns. Included is info about the fly, recipes, and an easy to follow step-by-step tutorial for each fly pattern: ... tying/tying-fly-patterns/

I've been watching a lot of recently. His vids are pretty well made. He also has a "tips and tricks" section on his website with things like splitting mayfly tails and proper dubbing technique, and other stuff like that for beginners. But their are also a lot of other good ones on you tube. Another one that I like but it is step by step not videos is he has a beginner fly tying section that starts with vices, tools, thread, and stuff like that thru easy nymphs and other beginner flies. He also has an intermediate and advanced section where you can work your way up to woven flies and salmon flies.

Give your money to Jesus they say,
He will cure all diseases today.
If you fight hard for children and wife
Try to get something good in this life
You're a sinner and bad man, they tell,
When you die you will sure go to hell.

I wish there was a fly shop local to me..... I have to travel at least 45 in any direction to go to a actual fly shop otherwise its walmart or a local rod and gun shop for pre-tied or slim picking on materials.

Thank you guys for the links
