Hello All,

I like to tie Green Drakes for PA streams using dyed green wood duck or lemon wood duck flank feathers for the wings.

I am out of these feathers and having trouble finding them.

Any help appreciated!

Dyed mallard flank feathers are fairly cheap and easy to find and should be a decent substitute. HTH >

+1 for dyed mallard flanks. Personally, I would never dye wood duck flank because of the cost. The drake I harvested this season cost me five hours of my time, two gallons of gas, three 28 gauge shells and one wet, cold foot. And I’d do it all again, and again.

Agree on the dyed woodie flanks, too expensive to dye. You can get bulk Mallard flank fairly cheap. I have seen it dyed lemon which makes a decent substitute for wood duck. Other option is to get a bulk pack of Mallard and dye it yourself the color of your choice. Full disclosure I never dyed any myself but there are a bunch of YouTube's out there explaining how.

Hint hint .....Check some of the Ducks Unlimited forums and hook up with a hunter in NE States esp Maine. Lots of Woodies up there and you may strike gold with Hunter willing to deal.
