Wire Head Hare's Ear for Small Mouth Bass

Somewhere I read that a Hare's Ear for smallies should be big, fat and ugly so I though I'd experiment.

It's on a heavy size 6 hook. The wire head was my idea and I think may be too thick.

I also read that it should be dark green, dark brown or black so I'll try it again with darker dubbing.

I'll put it to the test tonight or tomorrow.

I have caught smallmouth of Hares Ears that were natural color like yours. It'll work. Nice tie

RC, for only tying for a short time. That is a nice looking fly. The color looks great. A darker pattern would be nice as well. Maybe more like a damsel fly nymph or a small hellgrammite.
