Hey I wanted to ask a question on a certain pattern that I meant to ask a while back. I purchased this fly about a year and a half ago (before I started tying) and it was a phesant tail nymph but it was all chrome. I know it sounds wierd. But the whole body and beadhead was chrome, the only thing that wasn't was the brown tail and legs. The reason why I'm asking is because I wanted to see if anyone has ever seen or heard of what i'm talking about and what material can I use to get that chrome body? I purchased some stuff called "angel hair", krystal flash, and this stuff called bodi-braid. None of the 3 came close to what material this fly was tied with. The shop I went to, to purchase the 3 items only had those 3 that were as close as the material I could find. I haven't checked a fly shop yet, and maybe I should. But this fly produced very well when a regular pheasant tail or even a flashback wouldn't work. Unfortunately I don't have a picture becasue I lost the fly (only had 1 and I have no clue where it went) But like I said it was a smooth material for whatever it was and It was a chrome/silver color. Really cool fly too. Hopefully you guys know what i'm talking about, because I want to get the materials to make more of these things.

08,

Sounds like a Rainbow Warrior tied with plain flat tinsel:

Silver bead
PT fiber tail
Silver tinsel body
Coarse rainbow colored dubbing for thorax (use any color dubbing, red or orange also works well)

This is a killer fly in the Delaware river. Here's a photo:

Good luck!

afish,

What size(s) do you like for this fly?

Do you fish it in the branches or main stem?

thanks,
Mike

On a size 12 - 16 scud hook like a TMC 2487.

I wrap .015 or .020 lead wire under the thorax and dub over it to get it down.

It works anywhere on the "D". It's a good attractor nymph fished in the faster water in tandem with a more natural looking nymph. The bows jump on it in the riffs and faster runs.

Thanks, afish!

I just whipped out half a dozen.

If you're fishing in NEPA (esp. Big D.) please shoot me a PM.

That's exactly it! you're the best. Thanks for the pic and the materials used to make this fly. It's killer when nothing else is working. I'm going to a local fly shop tommorw to get the materials. Next question. I live in collegeville, is there ANY fly shops near my area? I cant seem to find ANY.
