what is this dubbing, i cant figure it out, and i love this fly?

Looks like coarse brown hare's ear with a blue thread running through it.

Looks to me like hareline ice dub. Not sure if they sell in in that color (rainbow?), but they do sell rainbow scud dub, which is pretty close.

Looks like synthetic peacock (krystal dubbing) in blue.

4 different posters, 4 different answers...

Wapsi Sow-Scud in Rainbow.

Looks like that "Spectrumized" dubbing with blue wire for the rib.

Speaking of... I've never seen that dubbing for sale, who makes it?

I have Wapsi Sow-Scud dubbing in Rainbow that looks like that. Just add blue wire rib and it should look the same.

take coarse nat. hairs ear and rainbow dub put it in a coffee grinder and the 2 till your happy

That's the only place to get it, AFAIK. It's finely ground rabbit underfur. Not many guard hairs.

I got the variety pack dispenser. It's decent stuff, but hard to tell what color it is until it's wet.

It gives me an itchy nose for some reason. Overall though good stuff.

Me too... I think I have a mild allergy to rabbit. The stuff is so fine that I think you end up inhaling a good bit of it. Pick it apart under bright light, and you can watch it create a dust cloud.

It sure dubs a nice, smooth body.

Def a blue wire ribbing, not a dubbing mix.

Some dubbing mix with antron should do the trick. KISS

I disagree. There's no blue wire. Click on it to blow it up, and notice the same colored blue strands sticking out behind the tail.

Ok Jay... you win. I retract all prior incorrect posts I've ever made on this site... which is just the single one 2 above this. lol

There was a "rainbow dubbing" I saw on a fly last year at some point. This looks very similar with just more colors.

wapsi sow scud dubbing... even though I can't find a picture, it might be the "tan rainbow" color. Looks a lot like the rainbow warrior dubbing just in a different color, and that's the dubbing charlie used for that pattern.

I retract mine. I should have blown it up. Anything called rainbow must be on the right track:

It might be rainbow angle hair. I have dubbed angle hair before and that's how it looks.

Thanks for enlarging the pic.

I'm gonna go with Hareline dark shade rainbow scud dubbing. I just pulled mine out and it looks almost identical when you look at it up close. I guess it depends on the size of the fly they photo'ed.

Looks like something you can make easily. Why spend the money or search around for that dub? Just card / blend the dubbin colors you like and you should be golden.
