I have always liked to tie quill body drys. A few versions of the famous red quill.

I know the answer is red quills but what xactly are those bodies?
 
JG thanks, John Power. The original red quill dry fly was by Art Flick.
The pattern called for a quill from a Rhode Island red rooster. Stripped and soaked. That is what these flys are tied with.

No Just water. I do lacquer then once they are wrapped.

Here is the perfect video for this. I think the size of the hook and therefore wing plays a part, as in the smaller sizes are harder to work with. But it should not be a problem with sizes such as 14 and 12. Dick Talleur did these wings exactly the same way as Brandt, from what I recall.
