Seems like it wastes a lot but I guess if you are going for a picture perfect fly that is the way to do it...fish do not care however.

The second video posted above, this one is how I've been tying parachute hackle for a long time. Tie the tail, body and post and complete the fly by whip finishing it. Turn the hook up with the shank perpendicular to the vise jaws and tie in and wrap the hackle as shown on the video. Eazy Peazy.

Afish, I've never tied my parachute hackle by turning the hook like that but I'll give it a go..seems easy. Parachute is my favorite style of dry fly anyways.
