This time of year some big fish are on the prowl in river sections where trout transition to WW species. Big browns drop back to these areas. Bass and toothy critters are also hanging out in the same deeper pools in many of our mid to large sized rivers and a very large streamer might put us into one.
For this game I like "big pig" streamers: large heads of clipped deer hair or spun wool that push water, and long articulated bodies. While not typically as big as muskie flies, we're talking flies in the five inch range. A sink tip shooting head and 8 to 10WT rod will allow you to load up for bear when throwing these big streamers.
