Progress Continues in Waterless and Low-Water Use Fracking Techniques

Gasfrac- the company that has a proprietary fracking technique that uses gelled propane instead of water- has used the tech for over 100 fracks in Texas.

There's also research being done to employ carbon dioxide and nitrogen for the same purpose.

Meanwhile, Marathon Oil has been adding guar gum as a thickener in order to lower their water use. They've cut water use in their fracks by 45% in the last 18 months. ... akes-headway-texasslowly/

It's caught on in Texas because water is so scarce there.

Someone needs to make clear to the fracking companies that water is scarce in the headwaters of Pa. Northern tier streams and rivers, too. Especially in the summertime.

Gel fracking has already gotten some notice and discussion as an alternative to hydro-fracking in New York state.
