Hello all, another newbie here. I choose the name Convert because I'm a former club angler who competed in bass tournaments. Now, I finally put down the flipping stick and I picked up the fly rod.

All told I've been fly fishing 7 times now in my life, and for the most part I still have no idea what I'm doing. However I have been lucky enough to nab a few fishwhom have taken pity on my flegling attempts at casting, retrieving, and fly tying.

I'm living in Alleghany County, but I do all my fishing in Westmoreland. Most of the time, my buddy has me escort him out to the Little Loyalhanna in Ligoneer and I've had some success.

This past Friday, I tried my hand at fly fishing the Turtle Creek. I was pleasently suprised to find my very first Woolley Bugger was such a hit among the rainbow and brown trout population. 5 fish from a creek that I was told trout couldn't survive in made for an unexpected success.

Below is my brownie, the rainbows ended up washed out looking on my cellphone camera. Below that is the woolley I tied. It's size 10 tied with a pinch of flash-a-boo in the tail, white antron for the body, and a nickle beadhead for weight and a defined head.

I get all the truth I need in the newspaper every morning, and every chance I get I go fishing, or swap stories with fishermen, to get the taste of it out of my mouth.

Soon? I'm already eyeing my wife's work schedule and making plans to go on "adventures". It's a rough week at work for me, so with my bosses grace, I have Friday off and I'm going to explore the creek above Laurel Hill. I'm not certain about the designations for the creeks, so that's something I'm going to need to learn.

I blame my buddy Wayne. If it weren't for his poor eye sight, I wouldn't have to hear about leaving my Hares mask laying on my workbench...

I just stayed closer to home. Still made it out to the Loyalhanna. Below is my result. The Orvis clerk I checked in with said they were hitting midges and small nymphs. I took small to mean a size 12 Woolley instead of my usual size 10's...
