News Release
Donegal Fish and Conservation Association
43rd Annual Spring Sportsman’s Show And Pork BBQ

The Donegal Fish and Conservation Association in cooperation with the Donegal Experiential Education Program will be holding its 43rd annual Spring Sportsman’s Show and pork BBQ on Saturday March 7th, 2009 from 4:00 – 9:00 p.m. in the Donegal High School gymnasium located on Rt. 772, Mount Joy. Club member, Harvey Schademan, will again be cooking up the BBQ. Advance tickets are being sold for the BBQ, but a limited supply of meals and individual sandwiches will be available at the show.

The show will feature exhibits from area sporting goods stores, fly tiers, rod and tackle makers, conservation groups, the Pennsylvania Fish Commission and the Cortland Line professionals who will be giving fly casting demonstrations. Also on hand this year will be fly fishing guide, Tom Brtalik, who will be giving presentations on fly fishing and local bow maker, Andy Zern, who will be demonstrating his craft.

This year’s featured speaker will be Dr. Brook Landis. Brook is an avid fisherman and angling historian who has authored several articles on local fishing history including the state’s first fish hatchery near Marietta, PA, and the introduction of bass into the Susquehanna River. He has just released a book published by Stackpole titled “American Coarse Angling: Modern baitfishing tactics for the overlooked species.”

Brook’s presentation will be on the introduction of fish into the Susquehanna River. This presentation will be based on an article he has recently written that details when certain fish species that anglers take for granted may have entered the Susquehanna watershed and how they were introduced. This will be an exciting and interesting topic for both anglers and local history enthusiasts.

All proceeds from the show will go towards continuing restoration work on the Donegal Creek, supporting the club’s cooperative nursery and the annual kid’s fishing derby held later in the spring.

Any questions concerning the show, or for information on setting up a display, call Kurt Enck at (717) 492-1928, or e-mail: fishmagic@comcast.net. You can also visit us on the World Wide Web at donegalfish.com, or join the group Donegal Fish and Conservation Association on Facebook. Also, feel free to call if you would like to purchase BBQ tickets.
