Andy,

That damn wB just sucks me in every time. I am making it a priority to tackle the EB this year. I just don't know when but when I do you will be the first to know. It may even start in mid to late april.

For sheer trout numbers, the wb will probably win. The wb also wins for most crowded and hyped river....ever. The eb has more bows that will burn your reel up. I'll say the eb has more bugs and a larger "average fish". You really should try it. The main is a critter all its own. It holds good fish, very heavy hatches but can be quite fickle.

I've never really fished the EB ever either and would definitely like to try it the next time I'm up there. Would you say it's as wadeable (or more wadeable) as the WB? Also, how does it compare access wise.

Its very wadeable and good access but a lot more private property. Weamers book is good for locations. I've fished it a couple times but I really want to give it a go this year.

There are MAJOR differences between the 2 branches. Access on the EB & WB? Sure. The difference is that the WB is 'navigable' by PA rules. You can wade anywhere inside the high water mark and that goes for the entire length of the river. On the EB, you have far, far fewer access points. On the EB, the landower owns the river bottom even though you could run a steamboat down it 6 months of the year. You have to go onto the DEC website to see the access points and public fishing rights on the EB. If you venture onto the wrong property, you could get yelled at, stuff thrown at you or cited for trespassing (one guy is a lawyer). Those rules apply to the upper and lower EB. Some day, there will be a case that goes to court similar to the one that happened on the little J. If you want to get technical, dropping anchor on posted section is trespassing.

Can you wade the EB? It all depends on the flow. Over 1300-1400 cfs and you better be one strong SOB or they'll be yanking your body out in town. In the spring, it's typically flowing around 2000 cfs. You will still be able to wade but very, very limited.

The upper EB is like a large spring creek. Very flat, weeds, selective fish and heavy hatches. Went up with DaveS to show him the river last spring. We intended to drive up, look at the river and then head back to Hancock to float the main river. We pulled in at 9am.....pulled out to head home at 5:30. We never left a 300 yard section. You couldn't find your fly on the water the caddis and hendricsons were so thick. What made it next to impossible..... hendricksons, blue quills, olives, apple caddis, grannom, march browns, crane flies and iso's on the water. Last spring was very strange. Every fish was feeding on a different bug or stage of bug.

Just got done speaking with Captain Joe about the brood II. He told me they do not expect them any farther north then NYC. We will see, but he does not expect them.

It's not under a canopy of trees like some of the waters down here. Bank sippers at best.

Ok, update for anyone joining us. Looks like we will have guys showing up Saturday May 4th. Not sure if we'll get any fishing in the first day. I think we will have some others in early in the week and then different guys later in the week. We even have picked up some locals to join the group, guys from nj, long island and con. Flows look great and are helpful keep the water temps down for now. Barring freakish weather, we should hit the hatches pretty good. Make sure you have caddis & rusty spinners. Jason....leave your home pool and tag along for 2 days. If you don't have fun, I'll be amazed.

Spot still reserved for Dave K.

Right now it looks like I will be leaving the catskills may 5th (sunday morning). I will be there most likely thurs, friday, saturday. If it doesn't work out to meet up I will be back plenty of times, but as of right now that is my only option because of work and other obligations. Obviously this could change. My work obligations are changing by the hour.

bump...bump

T-12 and counting. Looks like we will hit it right in the sweet spot for Hendricksons, some spinners and caddis galore.
